James Nelson was appointed chief information officer at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ in December 2024. In this role, he provides strategic leadership for the University’s technology portfolio, including infrastructure, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, software development and project management.
Nelson joined Park in 2012 and has held progressively responsible technology leadership roles, including associate vice president of information technology and chief technology officer. He led the selection and on-time, on-budget implementation of the University’s Workday enterprise platform and is guiding the implementation of Workday Student. Prior to joining Park, Nelson served as president and chief executive officer of KCnet Inc.
Nelson earned a Master of Business Administration degree and Graduate Certificate in Finance from Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management of Information Systems from Ottawa University and an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Johnson County Community College. He is a 2025 Kansas City ORBIE Award nominee and serves on the Innovation Advisory Council for Vation Ventures and as a deputy Title IX coordinator at Park.
